HOW DO I LIVE MY LIFE GOD’S WAY?

You’ll experience Gods best when you follow Jesus and live your life God’s way. God has already done His part to restore our relationship to Him. He took the initiative. Now he waits for each of us to individually accept what He has done for us; then follow Him.

PRAY A SIMPLE PRAYER OF COMMITMENT TO JESUS
“Dear Jesus, I repent of my sins and surrender my life to You. Lord, I thank You for Your forgiveness and everlasting life. I believe You died for me and rose again so I could live for You. I ask you, Holy Spirit, to fill me so I could know You, serve You and follow You the rest of my life. My life is not my own-today I give it to You. Amen.”

1. ACCEPT JESUS as your personal Lord & Savior.
Experience God’s best by first committing (or re-committing) to a personal relationship with Jesus.
- Knowing God is not about religion.
- Knowing God is about relationship.

“And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him.” Colossians 2:6 (NLT)

2. SPEND TIME WITH GOD through PERSONAL DEVOTION (DEVO)
Personal Devo is simply seeking daily time with God in prayer, reading the Bible and journaling.

3. PRAY
Prayer is simply communicating with God. It is a conversation, not a one-way street. Prayer is talking to God, but we also need to take time to learn His voice and listen to His direction for us. He wants to talk to us too.

“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27

- Why Should I Pray?
Prayer develops our relationship with God. If we never spoke to our spouse or a friend and never listened to anything they might have to say to us, our relationship with them would quickly deteriorate. It is the same way with God. Prayer, communicating with God, helps us grow closer to God and helps us be more intimately connected with Him.

- What Should I Pray about?
Very simply…anything and everything!

“Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” Philippians 4:6 NLT

- How Should I Pray?
Keep it simple! We don’t have to use fancy words or any special way of speaking when we pray. God knows our heart, and He wants us to speak to Him from our heart. Jesus gave us the model of prayer in Matthew to show us when we pray that we:
- Give God the honor that is due to Him
- Pray for His will to be done in our lives & our world
- Bring your needs to Him
- Ask for forgiveness of your sins
- Ask for the strength and guidance to live well as a follower of Jesus

4. READ THE BIBLE
The Bible is God’s Word to us. It not only explains who God is and how He designed the world to work, but it also addresses everyday problems of life. We can find hope, guidance and encouragement in the Bible for every season of life.

“There’s nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful in one way or another- showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped for the tasks God has for us.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17

- How to Read the Bible- Where do you start?
The New Testament is a great place to start. The first 4 books of the New Testament (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) take a look at the life and ministry of Jesus. It’s a great place to start to better understand and know who Jesus is.

- Bible Reading Plans:
There are many Bible Reading Plan options available; we have included a recommended reading plan to follow which is a great way to start spending time daily reading the Bible. Any Bible reading/study plan works, so experiment to find what works for you. Pastor Gus’ daily plan starts with two chapters in the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John), one chapter in Acts, one chapter in the rest of the New Testament, one chapter in Psalm, one chapter in Proverbs, and one chapter in the rest of the Old Testament (a total of seven chapters.) That’s what works for him but something different may work for you. Whatever you decide, just keep doing it daily.
P.S. Pastor Gus does this devotional plan not during “pastor” hours but on his personal time.

HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR DAILY BIBLE READING

A simple way to get the most out of your Bible reading is to use the S.O.A.P Method (Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer).

You’ll need a:
- Bible Reading Plan: Select a daily reading plan.
- Bible: Choose a Bible translation that is easy for you to understand. The New International Version (NIV) and the New Living Translation (NLT) are both great options.
- Notebook/Journal: A notebook or journal is a great way to record what God shows you in His Word. Take notes on what God is saying to you and use it as a tool for reflection.

S
SCRIPTURE: Take time to read and allow God to speak to you. Highlight, underline or mark in the margin of your Bible next to verses that stand out. When you are done reading the entire passage, reread the verses you marked, choosing one that speaks to you that day. Write out your scripture verse.

O
OBSERVATION: What do you think God is saying to you in this verse? Ask God to teach you and reveal Himself to you as you read. Paraphrase this scripture in your own words and write it down.

A
APPLICATION: Ask yourself how it applies to your life right now. Perhaps it is instruction, encouragement, revelation of a new promise, or correction for a specific area of your life. Write down how this scripture can apply to you today.

P
PRAYER: Bring your time to a close with prayer. This can be as simple as asking God to help you use this scripture or asking for greater insight on what He may be revealing to you. Remember, prayer is a two-way conversation, so be sure to listen to what God has to say! What are you praying for? What is God saying in response to your prayer?

HOW DO I CONNECT WITH GOD AND GOD’S HOUSE?

There is no greater freedom than freedom found in Jesus. As a follower of Jesus, you can experience God’s best when you connect with God, connect with God’s House, and connect with others.

WORSHIP
- Experience the presence of God through Worship
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”- Mark 12:30
• Our weekend worship service is for people at all stages in their spiritual journey, so feel free to worship with us every Sunday!

- At Warroad Community Church, we worship God in several different ways:

• We worship corporately by gathering as a church family
“For where two or three gather as my followers, I am there among them.” Matthew 18:20
“And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.” Hebrews 10:25

• We sing songs of praise and worship to God
“Come, everyone! Clap your hands shout to God with joyful praise!” Psalm 47:1
“In every place of worship, I want men to pray with holy hands lifted up to God, free from anger and controversy.” 1 Timothy 2:8

• We receive and apply the Word of God
“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” Hebrews 4:12

• We bring our generous giving to God as an act of worship
“Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.” Matthew 6:21

GET PLANTED IN A LOCAL CHURCH

- Becoming a part of God’s family and getting connected to a local church will help you experience God’s best for your life.

- Actively participate in weekend services and get connected in community with other believers.
“Those who are ‘planted’ in the house of the Lord, will flourish in the courts of our God.”- Psalms 92:13

WATER BAPTISM

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT WATER BAPTISM?
1. It was instituted by God, for born again believers in Jesus Christ, to identify them as obedient followers of Jesus Christ. (Matt 28:19, Acts 2:38, 41, Col 2:9-12)

2. It is separate from, and independent of the salvation experience – which is totally free gift of God and depends on no action on the part of the seeker, other than to express faith in Jesus Christ for forgiveness of sin, cleansing from its penalty, and the gift of eternal life. (Eph 2:8-9, Gal 3:26-27)

3. All born again believers in Jesus Christ are encouraged (expected) to participate in this once in a lifetime act of obedience. (Acts 2:36-41, Rom 6:1-11)

4. Baptism is administered in the “name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit”. (Matt 28:19-20)

5. Only a person who has placed their trust in Jesus Christ is to be baptized. Baptism involves a conscious decision by the believer to be obedient to God’s command. (Acts 8:26-38, Acts 2:41)

6. Baptism is done by completely immersing the body into water. (Col 2:11-12)

BAPTISM AT WARROAD COMMUNITY CHURCH
We practice baptism by immersion in water, which is the way Jesus was baptized and the way the Bible describes water baptism.
“At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.” - Mark 1:9-10

BY BEING WATER BAPTIZED, YOU ARE:
- Following the example set by Jesus.
- Demonstrating your changed life.
- Declaring your commitment publicly.
“We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.” Romans 6:4 (NIV)

WATER BAPTISM AND YOUNG CHILDREN
Since Warroad Community Church only baptizes believers who have made a conscious decision to follow, repent and believe Jesus, and since Scripture does not spell out clearly for the church how to determine when it would be appropriate to baptize children who have professed faith in Jesus, we have established the following guidelines:

1. Much of the weight of responsibility for such timing must rest on believing parents. Parents must always be involved in the decision making process.

2. It is best administered under the guidance of one of the pastors.

3. A key indicator of a child’s readiness for baptism is his/her having given proven evidence of a relationship with Jesus Christ, growth in obedience to His Word, evidence of concern for the unsaved, and positive interaction with other Christians.

4. Since water baptism is not required in order to receive the gift of eternal life, but is an essential part of God’s overall plan of bringing believers into the fullness of Christ, it is recommended that parents seriously consider waiting until the child is age 12 before being baptized.

PREPARATION FOR WATER BAPTISM
1. Fill out the Water Baptism Application and return it to the church office.

2. Read the following Bible verses:
